The Thang:

Conditions: Low 40s; slow (but pervasive) cold rain.

YHC (QIC)’s turn to lead the #BombSquad (BS) #HIM.  YHC figured that this morning’s weather (that was similar to yesterday) was going to be a deterrent for usually good numbers on a Saturday morning.  Still, YHC wanted to try out a #weinke (actually stole it from F3 Princeton’s WallE) called the Juarez Valley (after he used it on us at the #SafeHouse VAO) to see if it was a keeper at BS.  Short answer is yes and was effective as we did most of the work in confined space under the CFCC entrance / overhang sheltering us from the elements (YHC has no idea how F3 Minny Pax does it negative temps!).

At 0558, 2 other Pax showed up…studs Spork and Pikachu!  We glossed over the F3 mission, disclaimer, #mumblechatter, hit start on my playlist, and we all warmed up OYO while YHC explained the #weinke.

Juarez Valley WOD: The Juarez Valley (JV) – on the Mexico-Texas border – is reportedly a dangerous forty mile stretch of cotton fields and ghost towns.  Just ask Headgear (who is from the region) that made him the luchador he is today!

The JV WOD is like an 11 or 21 circuit.  In this case the total number of reps. for most exercises is 20.  So, we started out down the valley with (A) 19 Hand release merkins (HRM) or regular, (B) 19 Squats (S), and (C) 19 LBCs, then (D) Pax choice of either 5 Flying Squirrels (FS) (aka a Burpee with no Merkin nor big jump at the end, aka a crappy Burpee, aka the ones YHC probably does in actuality – lol) OR a short lap around the CFCC roundabout.  Then up the valley with 1 HRM, 1 S, 1 LBC and D 5 FS or lap.  Then back down the valley with 18, 18, 18, and 5 FS or L and you guessed it up the valley with 2, 2, 2, and 5 FS or L.  We were done when we hit 10 and 10 mark aka the valley floor at 0635.

QIC then called out Pax choice of exercise with 20 reps.  Upon completion (and with coordination with Spork the night before), YHC had to leave to go back to the house to take care of a work matter.  Spork and Pikachu OYO wrapped up the workout — hopefully with some more JV!

NMMS: All put in strong work and completed the JV WOD!  All agreed that the “grind” of the WOD – especially in the middle – is what makes this the most challenging.  This was not an AMRAP WOD, all reps. were completed.  Enjoyed being back out in the real gloom at BS  Yes, we had small numbers, but the #mumblechatter was awesome and we may have solved a few of the world’s problems at the workout and at coffeteria!  Speaking of Headgear (no he is not in reality a cartel sicario…he does have a lot of guns and ammo tho…hmmm), check out his interview done by Hamburglar on HBs channel on Anchor called the “BackBlast”!
