Quaker’s 200th BackBlast

Quaker’s 200th BackBlast

Workout Date:

Quicksand, Viagra, Cubby, Chicken Little, Quaker (QIC)

The Thang:

AO: TimeShare

Conditions: 66 degrees, overcast, slight breeze, touch of humidity

This is YHC’s 200th BackBlast since the creation of the local F3GrandStrand website (prior to July 2017 all backblasts were uploaded to the F3Nation Site and have been lost to the ether-world).

Crunching the numbers means YHC wrote at least 1 backblast (no duplications or cut & pastes) every week for the last 4 years. I had the honor of writing a BackBlast for most of the AO’s & CSAUPS.

Some of my favorite BackBlasts over the years were: “The Magical Mystery Q is Coming to Take You Away (10/22/2017); “MuscleBeach Visits the Village” (12/21/20217; “The UnderQuaker Cometh” (8/4/2018); “Unofficial Hulkamania Half Marathon” (10/7/2019); “Don’t Flip Out” (10/11/2019); “All 999999999’s” (7/25/2020); and most recently “Disco Inferno” (4/12/2021).

When I first started Qing way back in 2016, writing a BackBlast was harder than the beatdown. I tried to avoid writing the backblast, however, it was my duty and my honor to recap what went down in the Gloom. It wasn’t easy & it wasn’t about me, it was for all the PAX who attended the beatdown that morning and for the Pax who could not attend. I never thought all those years ago about how cool it would be to have 200 BackBlasts under my belt, I was just happy to finish the one at hand. But like all journeys, it began with the 1st step.

As YHC checked the Q sheet Sunday, I noticed that TimeShare had an open opportunity to lead, so I signed right up.

The TimeShare Pax love when YHC takes a hike up the pike and the feeling is mutual.

Some of my most memorable beatdowns took place right here in North Myrtle. No one will soon forget the Torrential Downpour and Lightning Storm we endured on 7/11/2019 (See “Blame it on the Rain”) or the beatdown titled, “The First 71 Burpees are the Hardest” (1/3/2019). But the most memorable TimeShare beatdown for YHC was my first one (“Northern Exposure” – 1/16/2018) because I had to step out of my comfort zone, meet new Pax, and lead at a unfamiliar location. It took some prodding by One Call but when it was over I was glad I stepped up! I would encourage all PAX to step out of their comfort zone and Q at different AO’s, especially TimeShare!

Every time I Q at TimeShare, I try to bring something new and push the Pax in different directions. Today’s session hopefully lived up to the hype.

When I arrived at 5:10 am, Quicksand and Chicken Little were already waiting in the lot. Next to arrive was Cubby followed shortly there after by Viagra.  As Cubby planted the Shovel Flag, we greeted one another and got our minds right.

Run North towards the Bridge. I messed with the Pax a little and ask if they ever ran over the Robert Edge Parkway Bridge and if so when was the last time. (YHC never intended to run the bridge today, but beatdowns are a mental battle as much as a physical one). NOTE: No one flinched about the possible run and I’m 100% confident that if I lead the PAX over the bridge, they all would have followed with enthusiasm. Three-quarters of the way to our final destination (about .5 of a mile) we crossed Main Street to utilize some brand new benches lined up on the sidewalks.

11’s on the New Benches – Step Ups and Dips.

You know the drill:  10 Step-ups followed by 1 Dip; 9 Step-ups followed by 2 Dips; etc., etc. until we reach 1 Step-up followed by 10 Dips.

Continue to Run to our destination, a large empty parking lot across from Kroger, that apparently housed a competitor. As we crossed the street, we witnessed a re-fueling truck pulling into the gas station & made a mental note to gas up on our way home from the beatdown. (Historical Note: there was a cyber attack on the east coast pipeline yesterday which shut down the flow. People panicked – gas prices jumped 30 cents in the course of the day from $2.63/gallon to $2.93/gallon)

Bearkin Lot Shuffle

Line up on north end of parking lot and Bearcrawl to each parking lot line. At each line do 1 perfect form Merkin, then bearcrawl to the next line and do another perfect from Merkin, etc., etc.  . . .10 lines down and 10 lines back.

20 more Merkins added to our total.

Run back towards the Shovel Flag. About ½ back to the Flag, YHC spotted 5 brick pillars bordering a small parking lot. They were about 3 feet tall and perfect for some additional pain. Besides, it would give the Pax a little breather before the final push.

Pillar Derkins

5 Pax each found their own pillar and performed 10 perfect form Derkins OYO.

10 more Merkins were added to our total for the day.

Total Merkins = 202

Continue to run back to the Shovel Flag. Along the way, Quicksand raced past YHC, awesome!! Lets go!! I gave Quicksand his props for about 10 yds then effortlessly put him in his place once again!! HaHa!! Thanks for the push.

When we reached the Shovel Flag, we had about 10 minutes left, so why not get some speed work in?
