Another year has passed and another day to pay tribute to the men and women who have served our country and are no longer here to enjoy the freedoms they stepped up to defend.  At Warthog, we start this day by taking part in The Murph Challenge.   Lt. Michael P. Murphy gave his life for his brothers during Operation Red Wings.  The story has been told by Marcus Luttrell, the only surviving member of the 4 man team, in his book, “The Lone Survivor,” as well as the movie by the same name.  I won’t go into the story here since it has been told…if you really want to read it, go back a year ago and read my back last from The Murph Challenge 2019.

I consider this a Q-less beatdown.  Sad clowns and PAX around the country complete this challenge in cross fit boxes, gyms, playgrounds and garages across the country each Memorial Day.  This year, the COVID-19 pandemic shutdowns and closures has left the PAX locked out of the Grand Park Playground we would normally use to do pull-ups.  I am all for modifying where necessary, but feel that the true Murph should involve some form of pull-ups, no matter how sad and sorry the form is.  Weedeater would not allow the PAX in my new grass to use my 2.o’s monkey bar/lache bar rig so he offered to bring two of his track loaders using the forks to lay bars across.  I had my pull-up bar I had built last year so that makes three bars.  That should work!  As I drove in at 0455, Podcast was sitting in the lot waiting for his 22 mile ride with Billboard so he helped me unload my pull up rig.  Now, down to Weedeaters to drive the second truck and back to Warthog!  Unload and set up.  PAX are rolling in!

The Thang – The Murph Challenge

1 Mile Run

100 Pull-ups

200 Merkins

300 Squats

1 Mile Run

w/ an optional 20lb vest/ruck

Some pax used the 1/4 mile track for the run while others ran the lake.  Skeed Steers worked great and the pull-up bar from last year still held up too!  There were lots of modifications and the PAX pushed themselves to finish what they could.  Everyone was smoked afterwards.  You all crushed it!  Bubbles even stole Kiwi’s ruck off his back so he could complete the Murph with weight and he did!  Huge thanks to Weedeater for the pull-up set up!  I owe you a bar!

This is how the PAX of Warthog and F3 GrandStrand celebrate those that have given the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country and how we remember those that have served and gone before us.  Jason Redman Navy SEAL (Ret.) and Wounded Warrior, said it well (In reference to The Murph), “It’s not about time or doing it in its entirety.  It’s about sacrifice.  It’s about Freedom.  It’s about recognizing your gift of Freedom.” YHC’s former teammate and badass, HT, loved when I sent him the modified COT video that includes a couple of his friends names.  He responded with a pic of the BUD/S candidates along the shoreline on their second day of Hell Week.  To that I say, I am grateful that our country has men willing to put themselves through that hell to prepare themselves to defend our freedoms!

Well done men!

”Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.”
