We’re exactly 1 week out for the 2021 Palmetto 200 Race. Everyone’s been training hard; consistently running 2-4 times a week and increasing their miles and lowering their pace. We’ve run in the mornings, the afternoons, and the evenings. Heck there’s probably been some who’ve run at night, too!

GS Pax have traveled to Conway to run with our Republic Brethren and the Conway Boys have ventured across the river to return the favor for the Hulkamaniacs.

It seems that whenever a Pax put out a call to run, multiple Pax join in the fun!

We’ve run the Hulk, we’ve run to the beach, we’ve run downtown Conway, we’ve run Lewis Ocean Bay Nature Preserve, we’ve run along the intercoastal, and we’ve run through numerous neighborhoods. If there was a pavement or a path we’ve run it; from dirt roads to highways we’ve run it!!

Today was the granddaddy of all runs, the run that started it all: Hulkamania Friday! As usual the twitter-sphere was quite all day Thursday. Who would send the first HC for Friday?

The chatter didn’t start until 9pm when Sunshine jumped on the P200 hotline and stated he was running from the Hulk at 5am. There was some back & forth with the Pax and at least one other HC was announced for the world to see. Others stayed quite but knew they would be there, too.

When YHC arrived at the Hulk at exactly 5am, there were 5 cars/trucks in the lot!

There were 3 Pax saddled up for SaltyGears and 3 Hulkamaniacs waiting on the six (YHC). I stepped out of the car, said my hellos & off we ran into the glorious gloom as Sunshine cranked up a 90’s Alternative/Grundge mix!

The THANG:

The Bridge, The Barc Park, The YMCA, a loop through The Village to say good morning to 7 more Pax,  then it was straight to the beach.

At the beach, YHC retied his shoes and off we ran in the opposite direction. On our return trip we passed 3 Pax on bikes heading towards the beach & passed 7 more Pax running to the beach. 65th Avenue N was rockin’ with activity!

From the gate our pace was brisk, sub 8-minutes, and continued strong all the way back to the Hulk. The lead changed handles multiple times during our run as everyone continued to push each other to get better. 45 minutes later we were back at the start!
