YHC took the Q this morning, knowing it is Mom Soto’s B-Day.  Just like many moms, she spent much of YHCs childhood running 3 boys all over town and getting stuff done!  She is also a black belt in Taekwondo, played many sports in her younger years, mentored and helped many young children as a elementary school guidance counselor, taught Spanish and taught many students English as a Second Language.  She also generally does not take no for an answer.  YHC had a few ideas for today’s beatdown and brought a truck full of various coupons and goodies but ultimately settled on a beatdown taking us around the Market Common.

As YHC rolled in about 0503, at least 3 PAX were already stretching and box breathing in the parking lot.  Seems that one of the lights is out so the lot was pretty dark.  YHC grabbed the flag still wondering whether or not to use the various coupons in the truck.  The rest of the PAX started rolling in, the mumble chatter kicked and discussions of personal hygiene and timing of showers kicked in.  There was also much discussion of box breathing and whether or not that would be part of the beatdown today.  Disconnect mentioned he hated squats and burpees but also brought us the great news of his last minute growth spurt and acceptance into the USAF.

Partner Up – 25 Pull-ups Each Partner broken up in whatever sets needed to complete.  partner will plank while waiting their turn.

Mosey to bridge.

5 burpees and explanation of group run (stay together) stopping on command to complete additional exercises.

The group ran around the lake starting away from the beach stopping to do 5 burpees 2x.

The next 2 stops included 5 burpees and 5 squats each time.

The PAX crossed Farrow Parkway towards the Theatre and as we crossed Barnes and Noble, made a jailbreak to ColdStone, the only place to find the best ice cream in town!

Bubbles checked on the store but didn’t go in and get any ice cream for the PAX so we did 5 burpees, 5 squats and 5 Merkins before jailbreaking to the Deville Street Parking Garage.

We did another 5/5/5 before bear crawling up the ramp to the top deck of the garage where we did another 5/5/5.

We ran around the perimeter of the top deck before heading down the rear stairwell to the classified Beach Bells Shelter location where we did another 5/5/5.

Wait…where are we????

We ran down Johnson Ave to the corner of Hackler St and Johnson Ave.

At this point Hamburglar suggested we move away from the dumpsters so the smell would not overwhelm the sweet cologne that Valvano applied this morning so we did and performed 5 more burpees before jailbreaking down Hackler to Howard Ave where we performed 5 burpees.

The PAX ran down the Arbor of Valor Park, crossed Farrow Parkway and circled up for 5 burpees, 5 squats, 5 Merkins.

YHC offered a brief tutorial on proper body positioning for a squat.

Hamburglar threw in 30 LBCs and Valvano added 40 American Hammers before the PAX moseyed back to the shovel flag to call time.

Disconnect was accepted as an Airman in the USAF and will be eligible for the job he applied for based on his ASVAB.  He will be heading to MEPS soon.  He has been working on lowering his body fat and getting his weight down.  Well done!

The PAX pushed themselves as usual and stayed together during this group run, burpee and other stuff workout.  Not sure about the others but for YHC the time flew today. It doesn’t always work that way.  Pull-ups are hard.  That’s why we need more of them.  Running sucks.  That’s why we need to do it more.  Jailbreaks really suck but it gets us breathing hard.  Burpees…well, who doesn’t love burpees.  A little knowledge dropped out of the Kelly Starrett book, “Becoming a Supple Leopard” on optimal stable body positioning and squats was just a bonus.
