PT-109…sort of

Workout Date:

Cubby, Chicken Little, Jeter, Malpractice (Respect), Chyna (FNG), Headgear (QIC)

The Thang:

AO: Timeshare

Conditions: clear. warm

Picked up the Timeshare Q after getting a commitment from our FNG with the possibility of two FNGs. Its been a while since YHC has Q’d at Timeshare and the possibility of two FNGs made for some excitement! Did YHC mention that these two potential FNGs are NCAA D1 wrestling coaches… The weinke better be good!

Some research into this day in history revealed that on 2 August 1943, US Naval Ship PT-109 was sunk by a Japanese destroyer. PT-109 lost 2 men who died immediately and the other 11 men swam 4 miles to shore with their wounded and survived on an island for 6 days before their rescue. The commander of PT-109, LTJG JF Kennedy, would go on to become President of the United States. LTJG Kennedy, Ensign Ross and Ensign Thom were each awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for their actions. This seems like a good story to build a beatdown to so let’s go!

2 minute warning

Mosey towards the beach entrance for warm up.

SSH x20 IC

Imperial Walkers x15 IC

TTT x15 IC

Windmills x15 IC

Merkins x22 OYO

Shoulder rotations forward and backward.

Mosey to the fences.

7s on the fences – Burpees and Merkins, hop three fences each way.

Mosey to the Shovel Flag to pick up sandbags.

Mosey to the beach with the sandbags.

time is running short and this was the part that was supposed to be the PT-109 workout so it was modified to carrying the sandbag to the waterline and performing 4 surfees (to signify the 4 miles the PT-109 crew had to swim to shore) or 5 burpees if choosing not to get into the water and then heading back. The goal was to repeat this 11 times for each survivor but time did not allow. Most did burpees but we all got wet anyway because of the tide pools! Jeter reminded YHC of the time…a little early so we kept going another 3 minutes and then YHC called last lap. We got back to the shovel flag just in time!

Name FNG – Matt – Head Wrestling Coach at Edinboro University (PennWest University – Edinboro…don’t ask) – Jeter called out Chyna and it stuck.

Prayers – PAX, People of Kentucky, Jeter’s Aunt

Awesome time. Great to be back up at Timeshare and even though Chyna won’t be back anytime soon since he is heading back to Edinboro, PA, it was great to have him out with us. He gets after it with some hard nosed wrestlers every day so hoping he will spread the word to those dudes when they leave the Boro for the real world! The GrandStrand is a big region so it was great to see Cubby, ChickenLittle and Malpractice get after it today! Jeter…well, you never know where he’ll show up but he’s always a source of knowledge when it comes to military history and if we had time, YHC is sure we would have heard a lot more about PT-109! Thanks men!

Always an honor!
