The Thang:

Conditions: High 50s and of course dark at 0515 at the Carolina Forest Community Church (CFCC) campus.

YHC /QIC was hit up by the new #BombSquad (BS) AOQ CrossStitch to kick off April in hopefully a successful month of quality beatdowns. Honor to accept the Q at the AO YHC was #EHd at apx. 5 years ago! The #weinke this morning would be mix of blocks and body weight exercises with partner work for camaraderie. A modified version of a tried and true circuit – B.O.M.B.S. would do the trick! Well…during Friday am’s EMAW gathering, one of the Pax somehow convinced (reports are conflicting here) YHC to incorporate some movie trivia off of the ageless “The 3 Amigos” (3A) — who doesn’t like trivia mixed in with doing hard stuff! And surely the requestor’s of this trivia themed beatdown would have “a plethora of piñatas” worth of knowledge of this cult classic to help out the rest who didn’t…right?!

YHC rolled into the AO after completing the Oreck 5K pre-run (2 others pre-ran from Early Riser / 4 mi. and 1 other pre-ran a different 5K because YHC is too slow — lol) and 9 other Pax joined minutes before “go time”. Pre-workout #mumblechatter ensued, 1-minute warning, welcome to F3, mission, disclaimer, and then we got after it.

Warm Up:  An assortment of usual F3 GrandStrand (F3GS) exercises IC and OYO. 22 Merkins. QIC asked the crew their depth of the 3A movie…and here is where to my dismay the dearth of knowledge – even from the requestors posting this morning – that required an “audible”.

SEGMENT 1: B.O.M.B.S. – Ea. Pax grab an F3 cinderblock; go to the large CFCC parking lot; partner up and spread out.  In a DORA 1-2-3 manner, the crew did the following:

  1. 25 (B)lockees per pair — one person doing reps., the other running to the end of the lot and back, and tag out.
  2. 50 (O)verhead presses w/ a squat…essentially a thruster.
  3. 75 (M)erkins.
  4. 100 (B)ig Boy Sit Ups w/ good form.
  5. 125 (S)quats w/ block.
If finishing early, 1 lap around the baseball field concession stand loop.

SEGMENT 2: Flutter Kicks (block optional) with 3A movie trivia. QIC originally had planned to announce to the crew that we’d do a guady number (200 4-ct.) of FKs, but that number could be greatly mitigated by correctly answering the 3A trivia. Unfortunately that did not pan out well with QIC having to lob out some easy 3A trivia questions like how many protagonists were in the movie and name one of them — lol! QIC then audibled to do 100 FKs with Pax taking turns calling out 5 reps. IC — that too was problematic lol! We cobbled together the targeted 100 reps.

SEGMENT 3: One more B.O.M.B.S. circuit. Same format and rep. counts. New partner and different exercise tho. Burpees, Overhead Press, HR Merkins, Curls, and Jump Squats w/ 2 hands touching the ground (#crowdpleaser here!). Blocks away and back to COT.

QIC called out 20 Burpees to put an exclamation mark on the end of the beatdown. Dr. Vit-D then wrapped up the Pax with light stretching and mobility drills (very important and oft neglected).

Time!

NMMS 1: Strong work today! YHC is a big fan of partner work with the comradery and #proximity it brings. There are several quality DORA type circuits on the Exercon and others that outside regions have put together that are challenging and fun. The 3A movie trivia was meant to bring some humor to the hourlong suckfest — didn’t quite work out as planned. Here is one of my favorite quotes from the movie (reply below if you got some favs):

Lucky Day: In a way, all of us has an El Guapo to face. For some, shyness might be their El Guapo. For others, a lack of education might be their El Guapo. For us, El Guapo is a big, dangerous man who wants to kill us. But as sure as my name is Lucky Day, the people of Santa Poco can conquer their own personal El Guapo, who also happens to be *the actual* El Guapo!

NMMS 2: 7 for Coffeteria where the musings of old men occurred and world problems solved.

NMMS 3: YHC mentioned the power of “agreements” in the COT that he got from his readings and teachings from the Wild at Heart Ministries. It was mentioned again at Coffeteria. Click here for the daily devotional / reading on that worthy topic.

Honor to lead!
