Safehouse Remembers MBPD PFC Jacob “Hightower” Hancher – EOW 10-3-2020

Workout Date:

Vit-D, Rocky Top, C-Span (1xR), WallE (F3 Princeton), and Red Baron (F3Snacktown and 2xR)

The Thang:

Conditions and Background: Workout was “Qd” via Virtual AO “The Safehouse” (#SH).  #SH was launched as a workout alternative due to a strict COVID19 prevention posture at YHC’s workplace as well as other veteran Pax in similar situations (professionally or personally).  The crew is small, but we have had visits from Pax from other regions…C-Span has been a consistent Vpax for several weeks now!

Today, YHC-QIC’s #weinke was a hero WOD dedicated to MBPD PFC Jacob Hancher (F3 Hightower – Badge 374) who tragically was killed in the line of duty this past Saturday (around 10pm) at an (too young) age of 23.  The format would be HIIT with an assortment of typical F3 exercises, add in an EMOM, light #coupon work and a respectable grinder at the end in hopes that we could honor Hightower (HT) in an F3 manner!

Logged on to Zoom and 5 faces appeared – Vit-D, Rocky Top, C-Span, Red Baron (F3Snacktown), and WallE (F3Princeton).  SHVAO/abbreviated welcome to F3, mission and disclaimer.

Moment of reflection by QIC re: Hightower followed by a moment of silence.

Observations and reflections re: HT by each Pax.
Praise reports/Prayer requests: Spoken (be better #HIMs, 2 groups of #HIM in C-Span’s AOR #accelerating, peace & protection for first responders in general, student of RT battling cancer, etc.) and unspoken.
VBOM by Vit-D.

Announcements: Check out F3 Grandstrand regional website, Slack messages and Twitter posts for daily updates and information.  Freed to Bleed blood drive on 10/23 (see Slack for details). CONVERGENCE HONORING HT – Saturday (10/10) at #Warthog with MBPD and other law enforcement, MBFD and other fire department personnel, FiA, etc etc etc.  0700.  Weedeater on Q.  Please make every effort to be there – this is what F3 is about!!

NMMS: Normally this section would be chalk full of trash talk, musings and ramblings from this old man!  But this morning, the mood was somber, reverent albeit still encouraging.  My humble observations…

  1. I did not know HT personally, but I did meet him through my job at a community outreach and my impression of him was a “gentle giant”. Others (MBPOs) had nothing but positive things to say about HT and all agreed that his life was cut too short and he had a bright future in LE!
  2. YHC was amazed by the outpouring of condolences and support from other regions…Twitter, Slack, etc., regions that I have personally posted at and others 2 time zones away…one who wanted a copy of today’s #weinke to honor HT in their area – lol (let me see if its worthy first)!
  3. Genesis 50: 19 – 20: (MSG) Joseph replied, “Don’t be afraid. Do I act for God? Don’t you see, you planned evil against me but God used those same plans for my good, as you see all around you right now—life for many people. In a time of division, fear, apathy, uncertainty and now tragedy…its amazing (and moving) to see people from all walks of life stop for just a moment (with all the craziness) and remember this kind-hearted soul who put himself in harms way for others paying the ultimate sacrifice.

Honor to lead this morning!
