Workout Date:

Rousey (1 x R)

HoJo, Manziel (1 x R), Karma (OY AOQ) and Flash (WH AOQ)

The Thang:

Conditions: Mid 80s; sun peeking through rain clouds; torrential rain earlier; and humidity in SC/August building.

YHC (QIC)’s monthly trek (outside of his normal Saturday AO) to Q and/or post…and so it was honor to be able lead the #HIM at F3 GrandStrand’s “flagship” #Warthog (WH) this morning.  YHC went with a #weinke (actually stole it from F3 Princeton’s WallE) called the Juarez Valley as we could do most of the work in confined space under one of the shelters if the skies opened back up on us.

4 other Pax showed up – Manziel (south, not to be confused w/ Manziel north #HIM who posts at #Timeshare), Karma (looking chiseled), HoJo (my Catapult brother who is leaving us, but will be posting at F3 Republic) and Flash (stud and all around nice guy!).  F3 mission, disclaimer, #mumblechatter, typical F3GS warm up, mosey to the bridge and YHC explained the #weinke.

Juarez Valley WOD: The Juarez Valley (JV) – on the Mexico-Texas border – is reportedly a dangerous forty mile stretch of cotton fields and ghost towns.  Just ask Headgear (who is from the region) that made him the luchador he is today!

The JV WOD is like an 11 or 21 circuit.  In this case the total number of reps. for most exercises is 20.  So, we started out up the valley with (A) 1 Merkin (M), (B) 1 BBSU (BBS), and (C) 1 Squat (S), then (D) Pax choice of either 5 Flying Squirrels (FS) (aka a Burpee with no Merkin nor big jump at the end, aka a crappy Burpee, aka the ones YHC probably does in actuality – lol) OR run ¾ length of the MC lake bridge and back (L).  Then down the valley with 19 Ms, 19 BBS, 19 S and D 5 FS or L.  Then back up the valley with 2, 2, 2, and 5 FS or L and you guessed it down the valley with 18, 18, 18, and 5 FS or L.  We were done when we hit 10 and 10 mark aka the valley floor at 0740.

QIC then called for a lazy-DORA of each pair doing a total of 72 Burpees (3 sets of 12 ea.) while the other Pax held plank swapping out in between sets.  A nice smoker right after the JV circuit.

QIC wrapped us up w/ 100 step ups – an audible to FiA’s shelter – since the track where we were gonna finish out w/ 3 laps was flooded.

COR – 5
Praise report/Prayer requests: Spoken (Pax dealing w/ CV19) and unspoken.

NMMS 1: All put in strong work and completed the JV WOD!  All agreed that the “grind” of the WOD – especially in the middle – is what makes this the most challenging.  This was not an AMRAP WOD, all reps. were completed.

NMMS2: YHC lead a short devotion on Ecclesiastes 7:2 in relationship to a recent FB suggested friend notification to Danny Major (his M / Donna was brutally gunned down as a bank teller 4 years ago today – our office responded w/ other state and local PDs).  Donna was a beloved and active member at NewSpring Church; Lombardi and Geno’s family reportedly knew her well.  Hence the FB friend suggestion via their algorithms.  It compelled me to re-read Ecc. 7:2 and its sobering truth (see below).  Am I just “playing around”?…not really being a #HIM (YHC guilty here)…life is short and we take it for granted.  The Pax at WH agreed and we collectively decided to re-double our efforts in this endeavor.

Honor to lead!

Ecc. 7:2: It is better to go to a house of mourning
than to go to a house of feasting,
for death is the destiny of everyone;
the living should take this to heart.
